There is a new entrant to India's richest list. You may not know much about
Dilip Shanghvi or his business, but being the richest man in the country takes some doing. Here's a basic list of
things you must know about the man who beat Mukesh Ambani to become India's richest man.
1. Dilip Shanghvi is currently India's richest man with an
estimated wealth of $21.6 billion according to Bloomberg, a lead of $100
million over Mukesh Ambani.

2. Shanghvi is a first-generation entrepreneur and promoter
of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries that he began with an investment of Rs 10,000.
3. Shanghvi is a commerce graduate from Calcutta University
and worked as a drug distributor before deciding to make and sell his own
drugs.
4. Shanghvi created Sun Pharma in 1982 and opened India's
first pharma research and development centre in 1993.
5. After India opened her economy, Shanghvi took the IPO
route and took the company public even as the shares were oversubscribed 55
times over.
6. Over the past year itself, Sun Pharma has gained 46 per
cent at the stock exchange while last week it went from Rs 883 per share to Rs
1037.
7. Shanghvi has acquired over 16 companies including Ranbaxy,
US-based Caraco Pharma and Israeli company Taro Pharma among other.
8. In 2012, he gave up his position as chairman of the
company and put Israel Makov, former president and CEO of Teva Pharma, to
spearhead the company's global ambitions.
9. Overall, Sun Pharma is now the world's fifth largest
pharma company.
10. Apart from pharma, Shanghvi has also invested in energy
and acquired a 23 per cent stake in Tulsi Tanti's Suzlon Energy for almost $300
million.
